Course
Description:
The followi ng FFI and FFll skills will be covered:
• Extinguishment of Class A & B type fires using the appropriate extinguisher.
• Extinguish or control piles of Class A materials.
• Extinguish or control a vehicle fire and storage container fire.
• Use the Interior Fire Attack Simulator for below-grade, at-grade, and above-grade fire attack inside a structure.
• Exterior combustible liquids fire of at least 100 sq. ft. using foam fire stream.
• Simulated fire involving energized electrical components.
• Simulated fire involving flammable gas cylinders.
Students participating in the class are required
to have basic knowledge and experience in the areas of:
• Safety
• Fire behavior
• Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA)
• Fire hose, appliances, and streamlines
• Ventilation
The skills training will be hands-on requiring full PPE which must include:
• Helmet (NFPA compliant)
• Protective hood
• Coat with liner (NFPA compliant)
• Pants with liner (NFPA compliant)
• Fire fighting boots
• Gloves (Cal OSHA or NFPA compliant)
• SCBA (Spare cylinder recommended but not required . Note: Cylinders under current hydro-static test will be refilled at no cost, however, the Fire Service Training Bureau is unable to fill oxygen cylinders.)
Facial Hair Policy:
Individuals with beards, sideburns or other hairstyles that interfere with the proper seal of a breathing apparatus face piece will not be allowed to participate . Protective hoods over beards are not approved.
